She cleans her house with this homemade play-doh, and it’s spotless. Here’s how

Do you remember playdough? That sticky, goop-like substance that your kids love to play with happens to be a very effective and efficient household cleaner. You can buy it from most retailers, but why spend money on it when it’s so easy to make it yourself! Making this goop is a great activity to do with the entire family, and it will make cleaning around the house so much easier.

At first, I was a little weary of how something like this “goop” could be used to clean. After all, my kids love playing with play dough, and they usually leave a mess for me to clean up after. But this DIY Goop happens to be great for cleaning tiny crevices such as laptop keyboards. Usually for the hard to reach places, I typically use compressed air, but that’s not always the best solution as it can blow particles even deeper into a gap. However, goop is perfect for this!

You can also use goop to clean your car. While car washes can get most of the job done, they don’t always clean out the crumbs and smudges that are hard to reach. Goop is perfect for this!

Making the DIY Cleaning Goop is quite easy. To start you’ll need the following materials:

  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 tspn Borax Laundry Booster
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 5 oz. clear or white school glue
  • Favorite food coloring
  • 1/2 cup water

First, add borax powder to 1 cup of warm water. Be sure to stir until everything is completely dissolved. Then set this mixture aside.

As I stated earlier, this is a great activity to do with your kids! In a mixing bowl, mix glue with 1/2 cup warm water. Then add several drops of your favorite food coloring. Blend everything together until the mixture is smooth.

Pour the borax mixture into the glue mixture. As you mix, you’ll notice a shape start to form. The mixture should feel wet and gooey.

Knead the goop using your hands until it feels firm and dry. Discard any excess liquid.

The more you knead the goop, the firmer it will feel.

Store the goop in a ziplock bag or an airtight container for however long you want! Then put them away and use them whenever you need to clean.

This DIY Goop is awesome and gets the job done. Kids even enjoy cleaning with it too as it reminds them of play dough.
